RapidCal

Calendar Options

All these options are available in RapidCal’s Calendar Options pane:
  • Published calendar: select in this menu the iCal calendar that you wish to publish in this RapidCal page. If the calendar is not present in the menu, choose Update calendars list to make the list up to date, then click the menu again to select the calendar. New in 1.0.1: the menu only displays the calendars that have been published in iCal to the RapidCal server.

  • Language: choose the language of the calendar in this menu. This will affect:
    • the name of the months and weekdays,
    • the week numbers calculation mode,
    • the first day of the week,
    • the time format.
  • First weekday: if the default first weekday picked from the language is not appropriate, change it here.
  • Show week numbers: check this option to add an extra column to the left of the calendar and display the week number. This column uses the spot color instead of the text color, to avoid making the calendar confusing.
  • Use short weekday names: check this option to shorten the weekday names. Actual result will vary among languages. This is especially useful if the selected language uses lengthy names and the space is narrow; using the short form may help making the calendar fit in the theme. See Troubleshooting for more info.

  • Use sidebar for mini-calendars: check this option to move the mini-calendars to the sidebar. These mini-calendars otherwise appear below the main calendar to show the previous month and next month. This option also moves to the sidebar the calendar's navigation controls (i.e. the date selector), as well as the links for RSS and webcal (see below). If the sidebar is already used for some other element or if there is no sidebar, uncheck the option to make the mini-calendars appear below the main calendar
  • Show events notes as tooltips: check this option to publish the events notes in the web page. The notes will appear as a tooltip for the event, when the visitor’s mouse stays for a second over an event containing notes. Using custom CSS, you can make these events look different on the calendar. See Themes & CSS for more info about custom CSS.
  • Include events URLs: check this option to make an event appear as a clickable link if it has a related URL in iCal. The URL is automatically linked to the event in RapidCal. RapidCal doesn't offer any way to edit the URL, you must enter it in iCal in the URL field of the event.
  • Calendar description: enter an optional description text. This text will be displayed under the calendar on the page. Use this field to describe the calendar's purpose to your web site's visitors.

Use the Text option on the right to make sure RapidCal encodes the text correctly. If you want to insert HTML in the description, use the HTML option to make sure RapidCal doesn't change your HTML. Warning: in HTML mode, you are fully responsible for accents encoding, every accented letter, quote, etc. must be converted to HTML entity (such as “é” for “é”).

RSS Feed

RapidCal can generate a RSS feed that reflects the changes in your calendar. Users of your web site can easily subscribe to the feed by clicking the RSS link; they will be automatically notified whenever you add an event in iCal, or change something in your calendar. This is a very powerful feature in RapidCal.
Note: if you are not sure what a RSS feed is, please refer to RapidWeaver's documentation about the Blog page, which also offers extensive RSS support.

  • Activate RSS feed: check this option to make the RSS feed active.
  • RSS link text: enter in this field the text of the RSS link to be displayed on your page. You can use either the Text or HTML option here as described above (see “Calendar description”).
  • Include past: select how you want to handle past events in the RSS feed. You can use either a number of events or a time span.
  • Include next: select how you want to handle future events in the RSS feed. You can use either a number of events or a time span.
  • Include repeated events: check this option to include repeated events in the RSS feed. If this option is unchecked, only the first occurrence of a repeated event (within the included span) will appear in the feed.
  • Include events notes: check this option to include the events notes in the RSS feed. This is the “Notes” field of the event in iCal.
  • Include events URLs: check this option to include the events URLs in the RSS feed. This is the “URL” field of the event in iCal. If the event has a URL and this option is checked, the event will be clickable in the RSS feed display, and the click will lead to the URL.

Webcal link

RapidCal can let your web site users subscribe directly to your published calendar and see it within their own iCal. Their iCal will show a copy of your calendar that always stays synchronized to your calendar. Any change in your calendar will be magically reflected a few seconds later, both on your web page and for any number of iCal subscriptors. Their copy is “read only”, they can't enter any change, they can only see it passively.

  • Activate webcal link: check this option to make the webcal link appear in your page. If this option is unchecked, linking requests to your calendar will be rejected by the RapidCal server.
  • Webcal link text: enter in this field the text of the webcal link to be displayed on your page. You can use either the Text or HTML option here as described above (see “Calendar description”).
You can leave the field empty to make the link invisible on the page, while keeping the webcal option active. Doing so would let RapidCal server accept the linking requests to your calendar, while not offering the option on your page and saving it for a few privileged users, to whom you would give the subscription link manually.
